Our Winter Concert in December was WONDERFUL. The students worked so hard all semester to prepare our "'Tis the Season" program. With wintry songs brewing up the flavor of the holiday season, we celebrated all those things that make December so special: festive nights, family, peace, goodwill to all. Our selections included December Nights, December Lights, The Season of Hope, Hear Those Bells, Child of Peace, and Bidi Bom. Hear Those Bells featured 3rd and 4th grade instrumentalists on Orff instruments (metallophones), and our 5th graders on recorders. Our favorites songs were Child of Peace, a beautiful lyrical song with words of peace in 6 languages and sections of two-part harmony, and Bidi Bom, an energetic and upbeat song that finishes with an exciting climax.
But perhaps the highlight of the evening was the world premiere of our CTE School Song! A project almost two years in the making, involving the entire CTE student body and several members of our teaching and administrative faculty, our school song was a true collaboration of minds and talent. During the 2012-2013 school year, a contest was held for the best school song lyrics. Lyric submission could come from any individual, group of students, or class, and were required to have the following song form: Verse 1, Verse 2, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus. The entire student body voted on "submission #4", which came from Miss Matthew's 4th grade homeroom class. The lyrics were then set to music by Mrs. Kehl over the summer of 2013, and during the 2013 Fall semester, choir students and faculty members practiced the school song for the world premiere on the night of our winter concert. The school song was a huge secret that we all kept so well leading up to the premiere. Hearing our creation live in concert was truly spectacular and will never be forgotten! Now all CTE students are learning the school song this year in music class. Stay tuned for a video post of our school song premiere!
